Steel Wire RFQ Checklist: What to Include for an Accurate Quote
In short: to quote galvanized steel wire or strip quickly and accurately, send the size, zinc coating, tensile/temper, standard, quantity, coil size, packing, destination port and application — plus any drawing.
A complete request for quotation (RFQ) gets you a faster, firmer price and avoids back-and-forth. Use the checklist below when you send an enquiry for galvanized steel wire or strip.
Who this checklist is for
Cable manufacturers, mesh and fencing producers, balers and distributors preparing an enquiry for galvanized steel wire or strip.
The RFQ checklist
| Include | What to send |
|---|---|
| Product & size | Wire diameter (mm), or strip width × thickness (mm). |
| Zinc coating | Coating weight in g/m², or a coating class / standard. |
| Tensile strength & temper | Required tensile (MPa), or soft / high-tensile temper. |
| Standard | ASTM A641, EN 10244-2, BS EN 10257, JIS G 3547, AS/NZS 4534, GB/T — or your own. |
| Quantity | Tonnage, or number of coils / spools. |
| Coil / spool size | Coil ID/OD and weight, or spool type. |
| Packing | Seaworthy packing, pallets, labels and marks. |
| Destination port | For freight and lead-time calculation. |
| Application | What the wire or strip is used for. |
| Drawing / specification | Attach any technical drawing or spec sheet. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Giving a coating class but no standard — the class can mean different g/m² under different standards.
- Omitting quantity and destination port, which set freight and lead time.
- Not attaching a drawing when the item is non-standard.
RFQ FAQ
What is the single most important detail to include?
The size and standard. Wire diameter (or strip width and thickness) plus the standard fix most other parameters, including coating class and tolerance.
What if I only know the application, not the exact spec?
Tell us the application, environment and quantity, and we will recommend a diameter, coating and grade — and confirm the standard.
