Standards for Galvanized Steel Wire & Strip

Zhongbo Steel technical team Updated July 2026
In short: Zhongbo manufactures and tests galvanized steel wire and strip to the main international cable-armouring standards — ASTM A641, EN 10244-2, BS EN 10257, JIS G 3547, AS/NZS 4534 and GB/T 3082 — or to your own standard. Name the standard in your enquiry and we build and certify to it.

Zhongbo supplies hot-dip galvanized steel wire and strip to the main international standards for cable armouring. Tell us which one your project requires and we'll manufacture and test to it.

Who this guide is for

Buyers and cable manufacturers who need galvanized steel wire or strip certified to a specific national or international standard for a given market.

Standards we work to

StandardRegionScope
ASTM A641USAZinc-coated (galvanized) carbon steel wire
EN 10244-2EuropeSteel wire — zinc and zinc-alloy coatings
BS EN 10257EuropeZinc-coated steel wire for cable armouring
JIS G 3547JapanGalvanized steel wire
AS/NZS 4534Australia / NZZinc and zinc-alloy coated steel wire
GB/T 3082ChinaSteel wire for cable armouring

We can also manufacture to your customer-specific standard or test plan — just share the requirement with your enquiry.

How to choose which standard

  1. Start with the destination market. Each region has a common standard — ASTM in the USA, EN/BS in Europe, JIS in Japan, AS/NZS in Australia and New Zealand, GB/T in China.
  2. Check the cable design. Cable-armouring designs often name the wire standard and coating class directly.
  3. Confirm coating and tolerance. The standard ties together diameter tolerance, tensile grade and zinc coating — see our zinc coating guide.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Naming a region but not a standard — leaving the coating class and tolerance open to interpretation.
  • Mixing standards from different regions on one order without confirming they are compatible.
  • Not requesting the mill test certificate against the named standard.

What we certify

Each shipment can be supplied with a mill test certificate covering diameter, tensile strength, elongation and zinc coating weight, plus third-party inspection on request. See test reports & inspection for the full documentation.

Standards FAQ

Which standard should I specify for cable-armouring wire?

Specify the standard your market or cable design requires — ASTM A641 (USA), EN 10244-2 / BS EN 10257 (Europe), JIS G 3547 (Japan), AS/NZS 4534 (Australia/NZ) or GB/T 3082 (China). If you are unsure, tell us the destination market and application and we will advise.

Can Zhongbo produce to more than one standard?

Yes. We manufacture and test galvanized steel wire and strip to the main international standards, or to a customer-specific standard or test plan.

What documentation confirms the standard?

Each shipment can include a mill test certificate covering diameter, tensile strength, elongation and zinc-coating weight against the named standard, with third-party inspection on request.
